uglytruthposterI know I should have had very, very low expectations for The Ugly Truth, since I knew the premise of the film was a fiery relationship between a control-freak TV producer trying to keep her self respect (Katherine Heigl as “Abby”) and a raunchy-but-devastatingly-handsome cable talk show host who just happens to be Abby’s newest on-air project (Gerard Butler as “Mike”).

This Sony Pictures film isn’t just about the “truth” about relationships: i.e., women want the romance and a man who will meet their unrealistic,10-point checklist, while guys simply want an approachable, beautiful woman who can be sweet librarian by day and bedroom tease at night. It’s the truth about a society that is morally crumbling. Continue reading

Ryan Reynolds Featured in Entertainment Weekly

Posted in Film Stars with tags , , , , , , on June 24, 2009 by Laura J. Bagby

theproposal-movieposterHello, Fans of Ryan Reynolds (me included),

Just thought I would let you know that Ryan is featured in the June 26/July 3 issue of Entertainment Weekly. He is on the cover and featured in a four-page cover spread. There is an article about him, and he seems like a nice, down-to-earth guy. But don’t get your hopes up; he’s married. Sorry! Yep, his wife is Scarlett Johansson (since last September).

And here is another tidbit of interesting news: He is Canadian. Funny that in his new movie with Sandra Bullock, The Proposal, it’s Bullock that plays the Canadian. Nice reversal.

Well, carry on, Ryan. We hope to see you again in those leading man roles.

‘Transformers’ Review to Post Tomorrow

Posted in Action, At Box Office, Film Genre, Film Rating, Film Release, PG-13, Romantic Comedy, Sci-Fi with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 23, 2009 by Laura J. Bagby

Last night I went to a screening for the new Michael Bay sci-fi action/adventure film starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox. I can’t disclose my review yet. (Awww! Man!) I can’t give my official two cents until opening day, which is tomorrow, because that’s what the studios stipulate if you go to a film screening as press. My hope is to get the review up tomorrow afternoon, since I will be taping my Current FM radio review of the new romantic comedy The Proposal in the morning from the comfort of my home.

Upcoming Reviews: ‘The Proposal’ and ‘Transformers’

Posted in At Box Office, Film Genre, Film Rating, Film Release, PG-13, Romantic Comedy, Sci-Fi with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 19, 2009 by Laura J. Bagby

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just saw The Proposal, starring Sandra Bullock and one of my personal favs (that would be  — and I am going to waiver just a bit from my journalistic professionalism here — Ryan “Hottie” Reynolds). I will have a complete review for you soon. This is the movie that will be featured on Friday’s Positive Hit Radio The Current movie review segment on Friday, June 26. So be listening! And I will get those audio clips up as soon as I can just in case you miss it live.

Also, I am excited that I will be seeing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at a pre-screening event next week. It opens Wednesday, June 24. I read a review with the film’s starlet, the young Megan Fox, in Entertainment Weekly recently. She is quite a beauty, but unfortunately also very mouthy if the interview is any indication. Hope that fact doesn’t spoil what I see on screen.
